Built in 1922 by the Italian architect Giulio Mongeri, who was inspired by the elegant Milanese palazzos, Maçka Palas is one of the finest buildings in the city. Mongeri’s other well-known works in Istanbul are the Italian Embassy Building in Maçka and St. Antoine Church on Istiklal Street. Maçka Palas housed many famous historical figures, including poets, writers, composers and journalists, between 1922 and the opening of Park Hyatt Istanbul – Maçka Palas in 2008.
